Christmas 2009

Wow what a Christmas! It's good to be home but lonely too and I can't believe it's over. I just took my tree down today, sad! We had a Marett family Christmas party on Wednesday. The dinner menu was seafood, yum! I absolutely love seafood. There was salmon, crab won tons, cheddar biscuits, clam chowder, and shrimp. It was all delicious! After dinner we had a little nativity scene and opened presents.

On Christmas Eve, we got another visit from Santa. Andrew liked this Santa much better... Olivia still freaked. In my family, we have TONS of Christmas traditions. I have never been to a Christmas Eve with my family where there was not prime rib, funeral potatoes, homemade rolls, a Christmas program, and a little craziness...

Andrew was so excited to lay cookies out for Santa with his special note. The highlight of Andrew's Christmas was Lightning McQueen and his new tracks and trains. Olivia was thrilled to have her ball popper, she LOVES it and apparently my teenage cousins love it as well.

All in all it was a fantastic Christmas and I can't believe it is over! :(

Merry Christmas!

My kids weren't too pleased with Santa this year. Andrew surprised me because he is usually so out-going but just like last year, he was very shy and I had to drag him to sit on Santa's lap. He sat there for about 5 seconds, said he wanted "Gordon" and right back off he went. What wasn't a surprise was Olivia's reaction.

Crayons and Haircuts

I have no idea where he learned this...

I can't believe how much my kids look alike in these two pictures (minus the crayons). Or is it just me?

I gave Olivia her first haircut the other day, just trimmed her mullet a little... :) When Andrew was a baby, he had the most gorgeous curly long hair and I almost cried when I had to cut it. I was so excited for a girl and of course she doesn't have an ounce of curl in her hair and it grows very mulletish, is that a word? She still looks adorable to me. This is the best pic I could get of her, she sees my camera and either tries to hit it (see above picture) or runs in the opposite direction.

So it's now 10pm and today was supposed to be my celebrating day of no more school for awhile... instead Ben is working on a paper STILL! UGH! I swear some teachers have nothing better to do than to make life miserable.

Deck the Halls

I LOVE Christmas and I really love getting all my decorations out and going crazy each year. The day we got back from Thanksgiving, we put up all our Christmas stuff. My favorite decoration is my nativity and I found the perfect little place for it this year (meaning high enough that the kids can't reach).

Last year I swore I could not make stockings but I guess my sewing lessons were good for something! I got this idea from Martha Stewart, of course hers are nicer looking but whatever. The point is to put a new little felt piece in the shape of whatever you want to remember that year on your stocking.

Here are pics of us decorating our little fake tree. I was so sad that we forgot to find the tree stand at my grandparents house over the break, I really wanted a real tree this year but my frugality wouldn't allow a tree stand in our Christmas budget. Yes I am cheap. :) Maybe next year.

Stockings hung...

And here is a nice blurry picture of the outside of our house.

Happy Christmas!

Sleep Talking

Ben and I had an interesting conversation the other morning. It went something like this...

Ben: (half coherent) Do we take Andrew to the show?
Megan: (less coherently) Huh?
Ben: Do we take Andrew to the show?
Megan: The caves.
Ben: Keys?
Megan: No the caves.
Ben: Keys?
Megan: The caves in Provo! Just shut up!
((((((((((Pause)))))))))))))
Ben: I still don't understand.

About that time, Ben realized that we were both completely out of it but he opted to fall back asleep and we discussed the details later. I vaguely remember feeling really irritated that he kept asking the same question over and over again and that he was waking me up to do it. Ben remembers being frustrated that I was mumbling and wondering what keys had to do with taking Andrew to the show. Whatever I was thinking must have been serious because I don't regularly tell Ben to "Just shut up!" :) I am still laughing about it.

Beware of the Me Monster!

Me and my friend Keri were talking yesterday about people that dominate conversations. Brian Regan does an hilarious sketch that pretty much sums it up. I am sure we have all had the opportunity to talk with "me monsters" on occasion and have probably all even been a "me monster" from time to time. Enjoy!

Auction

Hey Everyone. I follow this woman's blog who is having an auction to raise money for Emily Jones, the woman that lost her husband in the caves in Provo over Thanksgiving break. If you haven't heard about that awful story, here it is. I was so heartbroken for that poor woman, who is pregnant and has a toddler. There are all sorts of things up for auction on her blog, you just post a comment with a bid. All the money goes to help Emily Jones. It's a good cause and you will probably find some good deals on gifts this Christmas. I think I am going to bid on one of the cute headbands for Livy. So here is the blog.
